Sausage & white bean chili

This past weekend was free of scheduled events for the most part and it was SO nice to have time at home to get stuff done. Jon was working in the garage and Ford and I were playing in the backyard when I realized it was well past lunchtime. Now that Ford is on one nap a day, we usually eat lunch pretty early so I can get him down before the midday witching hour begins and the mornings always fly by! I had a package of Hillshire Farm smoked turkey sausage in the fridge and in about 15 minutes had the most delicious sausage and white bean soup in my belly. Simple ingredients and opening up a few cans was all it took for this yummy soup to come together! Jon was incredibly pleased and between the two of us we ate almost the entire recipe, whoops. I plan on adding this to our meal rotation and it would make a great post baby meal for any new mama. I love that Hillshire Farm smoked sausage is already cooked and all it requires is a little heat before it is ready to go. Ain't nobody got time to cook raw meat with toddlers running around!

Ingredients
1 package Hillshire Farm smoked sausage (turkey or beef)
1 cup chicken broth
2 cans Northern or white beans, rinsed and drained
1 4oz. can diced green chilis
2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin

1. Slice smoked sausage into bite sized pieces
2. Brown sausage for 5 minutes in a medium sized pot
3. Add remaining ingredients and let simmer for 10 minutes
4. Serve warm and enjoy!

Sweet & Savory

I have a love for mixing sweet and savory when it comes to creating in the kitchen. I remember my first job when I was 16 years old was at a restaurant close to my house as a hostess. We got to taste everything on the menu (and got 50% off all of our meals!) and I quickly became obsessed with the Monte Cristo sandwich. Hot ham and turkey surrounded by flakey sweet pastry dusted with powdered sugar served with a side of strawberry sauce. Talk about heaven on a plate. I also distinctly remember when I learned how loaded with calories that sandwich was, sigh, what a shame that fried food has to be so good! Although it is no Monte Cristo, I've been eating a sweet/savory sandwich for 75% of my lunches for the past 5 years. A toasted cinnamon raisin English muffin topped with fresh Hillshire Farm Naturals smoked turkey breast and honey ham with melted Muenster cheese. Mmm mmm.

I've been Hillshire Farm Natural Lunch Meats and love that I can trust that there are no preservatives, artificial ingredients, or added colors/nitrates which is incredibly important when looking for foods to feed my family. Oh and I am growing a baby and can't be stuffing my belly with anything "fake". The Smoked Turkey Breast tastes like it was just shaved at the deli and the honey ham is deliciously sweet. I like being able to reseal the package without the chance of the meat becoming slimey in a few days and I can get a pound of Hillshire Farms Natural Lunch Meats for less than $4!

Pickup some Hillshire Farm Natural Lunch Meats at your local grocery store and I promise you'll love my random sandwich creation!
